Signature Quilt celebrates the Smith Cabin

This quilt celebrates the cabin of Francis Marion Smith of 20-Mule Team Borax fame.The center of the quilt is an archival photograph printed on muslin and is surrounded by 16 signature blocks, all descendants of Francis and Evelyn Ellis Smith.The 160 signature blocks were made by P.A.T. Hunt and the quilt top was pieced by Marie Sweeny and P.A.T. Hunt. Mary Kanarvogel provided the backing for the quilt and basted the three layers on her long-arm machine. A total of 25 quilters from Shelter Island and the East End hand quilted the Smith Cabin Signature Quilt. The quilt was created as a fundraiser for the Taylor's Island Foundation and is seasonally on display at the Cabin.
